12:54 am - The Shudders
Can't believe how backwards this bloody sickness is. I seem to be getting worse instead of better. The runny nose has more or less dried up, but the cough's got worse, my throat feels like someone's taken a wire brush to it, my stomach's upset, I'm hot and cold constantly and I'm still getting dizzy from strenuous exercise like moving between one room and another, or not lying down for more than three minutes.

01:12 pm - The Dreaded Lurgy
Ugh. Sick again, and now breaching the work absence policy, so I'll be up for an HR interview when I go back. It's clearly flu - feeling slightly better today but still have a temperature, muscle aches, sore throat, cough, sore throat... the usual roll of misery I'm sure everyone is sick of hearing of by now ;)

10:40 am - Ugh
Well, went to the Western and the doc there told me he thought the ear inflammation was secondary to something to do with my teeth, most likely a dental abscess. So I have an emergency appointment down there at 11.40am. Getting down there should be extremely fun, given that it's just too damn painful to eat, so that the drugs are making me extremely woozy whenever I stand up...

Ech, all part of the merry-go-round... If I need the tooth out, I'm not sure whether to hope for a general or not. Yes because I'm a wimp, no because I suspect it'd put me out of action for quite a while...

01:14 pm - Crap
Well, finally phoned NHS 24, being essentially unable to eat and drink without immense pain, and the codeine no longer seeming to work. Got sent off to the Western.

This is really not how I would have chosen to spend my solstice.

11:30 am - Went to Doctor...
...have antibiotics, was patronised, feel like shit, holding a hot water bottle to the side of my head to try and make the pain go away again :(

Excusing the lovely [info]squintywitch 's presence, why is it that every doctor you visit immediately makes you feel as though you've wandered into a casualty clearing station with a hangnail? I wouldn't even mind so much if it was a hospital, but it's a bloody GP, things like ear infections are surely a pretty large part of their remit?

07:57 pm - Rant and Illness

I wish I knew what do to about work.

I'm clearly as deeply unsuited to this job as I have been to the legions of other crap I have done since leaving university. I should have listened to the small, still voice that screamed "Why are you applying for this job? The reason the PR place didn't renew your contract wasn't your writing skill, they loved that, it was your lack of organisation!". But I didn't, because I was so damn desperate to get out of the phone job.

I'm trying to put down the rampant paranoia, the panic, the shakes and the perenially upset stomach down to the lingering effects of this stupid virus. I wish I could. I'm so damned tired all the damn time, and I'm so so sick of finding jobs that I'm just not any damn good at. I know I'm not stupid - I have a good fucking degree - so why can't I do anything well?

Sorry for emo. Also for excessive use of the word "damn". My vocabulary seems to have got stuck in the Georgian era today. It's only a mercy that my spelling hasn't.

09:22 am - The Weekend

Well, the two part Nest adventure went far better than I could have hoped for, in the end. The dinner part was probably the most successful political one we've ever done. It got off to a bit of a slow start for the NPCs, as the party had a deAngsting (a despair spell, not the average and impossible kind) and some personal politics to deal with, but by and large the whole thing swung beautifully. newworlwoodsman, mist_and_gold and glasgowphill are luckily wonderfully experienced RPers who should be able to do political manueverings in their various sleeps these days, but I was equally impressed with Calum and Garrick, who carried off two rather vital parts with equal subtlety and less experience, drawing the players in beautifully. It's a wonderful thing for any GM when a night begins to take on a life of its own, and you're nothing more than a facilitator, especially when such huge gameworld events are going on. The looks of utter horror at the shock ending and cassies_file's wonderful semi-Ic sobs of "We had it fixed! We had it fixed!" were sweet sweet music to my ears.

Part two actually seemed to come off equally well. Despite one or two hiccups in the way of terrain problems, the public and slightly dodgily-functioning walkie-talkies, I thought the real-time format worked just about as well as we could have wished. Ideally, better weather and a larger monster crew would have been absolutely ideal, and I had the usual Monster GM regrets that I couldn't see the party's reaction to about half our lovely scenes, but the party seemed to enjoy it, the monsters seemed to enjoy it and there was considerably less faff than usual, which let splebit head for home well before dark and let there be minimal standing about in the cold for the rest of us.

So, that was good.

Only downside was that I ended up spending all of Saturday in bed throwing up, having somehow picked up a random plague, and probably really shouldn't have been out in Mugdock running about like a loon, as I ended up close to hallucinating by the time we were done. Baseball caps do look a lot like mokosh muzzles, though! Upshot was that I've ended up taking today as annual leave, since I have tons of the things to use before the end of March or lose anyhow, and am spending some quality time in my bed with tea and old Sharkwar fic. I may brave the snow to wander out later on, though, assuming I feel like it, as sadly the honey has been forced to work.
